(APD) uses a machine called a cycler. It is connected to your catheter through a specially prepared sterile tubing set.
The cycler fills and drains your peritoneal cavity automatically for you, while you are sleeping. Most people stay connected to the cycler for 8-10 hours.
Your doctor may choose to enhance your treatment by adding additional exchanges.
If the cycler is used during the day, you will disconnect from it as soon as the exchange is completed.
